Our leisure team were recently very lucky to be invited to view the Seabourn Odyssey during a short stop in Dubai. Seabourn is a very exclusive cruise line, with small ships catering to guests with total luxury. Here’s our leisure consultant Sarah’s thoughts about the ship and the line!
- What did you like best about Seabourn Odyssey?
This is a 6* cruise ship with a very relaxing atmosphere on board. The staff were so welcoming and the food was fantastic.
- What was unique about the ship?
Personally the highlight for me were the suites, in particular the Wintergarden Suite, with its own private conservatory with a bathtub overlooking the ocean; very surreal!
In the cabins, they personalise the stay for their guests with their welcome pack – they offer a complimentary welcome bottle of champagne along with 2 litre bottles of alcohol which is refilled throughout your stay. All guests are really treated like royalty from arrival to departure.
As a Seabourn Club member, every day you sail with them, this earns you 1 Sailed day and these are credited towards your Milestone Awards. For every 140 Sailed days, they offer a complimentary cruise of up to 7 days.
- What kind of traveller do you think the ship is best suited for?
I would say it is generally catered for the age group of 50 +, discerning couples who enjoy a nice relaxing time with like-minded fellow travellers.
- Why would you recommend a Seabourn cruise over other cruise lines?
They offer unique itineraries and are able to go to unique port of calls due to the smaller size of their ships. This ship caters for 450 guests and has a staff ratio of almost 1:1 per guest. The cruise is all inclusive with gourmet fine dining experiences available throughout their 4 restuarants. The price you pay for your cruise is the full price, no hidden extras! Tipping is not required as the staff pride themselves in the service that they offer to guests. They really do go the extra mile for them, if anything is needed out of the ordinary, they will try their best to get this for you, also in the ports of call, they try to incorporate some local culture in their entertainment that they offer. On their Caribbean cruises for example, they will set up a private beach bbq and have dancing which the guests love. They will have themed nights around the pool area which are always a hit!
- If you could pick a Seabourn sailing to go on, which would you choose and why?
My ideal sailing would be on the Seabourn Quest Antarctica & Amazon Exploration cruise for 41 days, leaving 03rd Feb 2016, definitely once in a lifetime magical trip!
