Two or three times a year, representatives of Four Seasons properties from all over the world come to Dubai to present their hotels to the industry. Apart from a really nice dinner, they also do raffle draws for free stays in their hotels to give a lucky travel agent a chance to experience a Four Seasons hotel stay. Al Arabi staffs are always present on these events and last April, I was the lucky one! I won a four nights stay on a half board basis at Four Seasons Resort in Anahita, Mauritius!
I recently traveled to Mauritius with my fiancé to redeem my prize. It was a very nice flight from Dubai as Emirates only flies A380 on both their flights to and from Mauritius. Even flying in economy at 3 am we had a nice rest and landed late morning which was perfect as we didn’t lose a day just flying. As I’ve visited Mauritius before, we didn’t organize a transfer. There are a LOT of airport taxis. Helpful tip: they will show you a tariff sheet of how much is it to get to your desired location, but you can bargain. From MUR2000, we managed to bring it down to MUR1200 (about AED140) for a 35kms drive to the hotel.
Upon arrival in Four Season’s in Anahita, we had a designated staff who welcomed us along with the hotel sales manager. Normal check-in time was 3pm but we were accommodated to check-in on a much earlier time and was given an option to do the check-in in our villa. We stayed in a Garden Pool Villa, with its own private pool and lush garden that can comfortably accommodate a family of 2 adults and 2 children under the age of 10. Since we were on a half board basis we were given the liberty to choose among the 3 restaurants inside the resort for our dinners for the rest of our stay. They had an Italian restaurant, a contemporary grill and a Mauritian-Indian-Chinese restaurant, we tried each of them and really enjoyed them all.
We had almost 4 days to stay and enjoy the property so we made sure we explore every area using the complimentary bicycles. The hotel is in the midst of golf courses and has its own mini herb garden which also serves as a barbeque area. There is also a mini turtle park, where you can see the huge tortoises originating from Madagascar. The best part for us was the beach; they offer an extensive list of complimentary water sports activities including a boat ride to the nearby island of Ile Aux Cerf where we went para gliding. However, this island was owned privately by another company so you do have to pay for all amenities and activities.
To complete our getaway we booked for a couples massage. The moment I entered the spa, I exclaimed ‘it’s a resort inside a resort’! We were welcomed with a selection of teas and then our therapists guided us to our own water bungalow overlooking the lagoon where they did the massage. The spa also has private outdoor shower and an indoor shower that transforms into a steam room.
Though it was a bit cloudy at times during our stay we really enjoyed the stay. Best time to visit Mauritius is from November to February, it is a small island but the weather in one area can be entirely different than the other areas, so you won’t run out of things to do, or places to visit. It is a very family friendly destination with lots of activities for children, all food sold in the island are Halal certified and it’s ideal for honeymooners as most hotels offer exclusivity.
Stays at Four Seasons Resort would start at around AED2500 for the entry level villas with breakfast included.
